Around menopause you might begin to see changes in your sex life. Some women enjoy sex more now that they know they will not get pregnant. Others lose their desire for sex and may not enjoy it as much as before.
Changes in sexuality at this time of life have several possible causes, including:
- Lower hormone levels can cause vaginal dryness and make the walls of the vagina thinner. This can make sex uncomfortable.
- Lower hormone levels may lower your sex drive.
- Night sweats can lead to sleep problems and make you too tired for sex.
- Feeling emotional or stressed may make you feel as if you are not in the mood for sex.
Being less interested in sex as you age does not mean you need medical treatment. But if you are upset about these changes, you can get help. Talk with your doctor or nurse about your concerns.
